Literature
The Berliner
Sick of writing about the pianist,
she leaves for Berlin and makes her
home next to the absence of a wall
She contemplates the American Embassy
and changes her cigarette brand
She sets out walking
and considers percentages of lives,
eats alone, begins to consider meat as flesh,
removes paintings from their frames
and in their place hangs mirrors
Calling home small voiced
she asks after family and friends
politely, washing dishes as she does so,
the phone in the crook of her neck
She makes no friends, does not make love,
resents nothing and leaves no
holes in people's lives
Literature
Charity
Prick with a pin the thickest vein.
A butterfly, albino, sniffs the skin
with serpentining snout uncurled
to sip the silken sanguine pearl,
to sate, with crimson hue, her wings.
Now see, the heavens flutter pale
and papery, swarm the trickling fount,
and Yes! the sun illuminates the task—
to pock this body limp with bloodied vugs
to glut a million throbbing compound eyes!

There are some stories I cant tell.
You are too old for fairytales.
You are too old for carousels.
There are some stories I cant tell.
You father said he wished you well.
He said the card is in the mail.
There are some stories I cant tell.
You are too old for fairytales.
Its hard pretending not to care.
Your smile is worn on mannequins.
Im sure I saw one wear your hair.
Its hard pretending not to care
That you are standing, silent, there
And separation is glass thin.
Its hard pretending not to care.
You smile is worn on mannequins.
You didnt hear me when
I said I loved you. Once

I'm scratching an itch. After a steady diet of Glen Cook novels, I needed to get this out of my system, and try something in a different tone from the usual.
This is in response to a prompt on *simplyprose - A boy is kidnapped.
I'm playing hell with present vs. past tense in this one, among other things. It's not really about grammar this time. Mostly I'm interested to know if the action and scenes are clear, and if there's a story underneath it all.
EDIT 2-18-09: I fixed the verb tenses for consistency.
EDIT 12-31-10: I wanted to show off the awesome portrait of Talent that *LunaticStar drew for me. Always wondered what the guy looked like:

It's a tad confusing at the beginning with all the new terms tossed at the reader with no context but the story is captivating. I think it's a blend of dark fantasy and weird fiction. Very few attempt it but you pulled it off.
