Here's my thing for this: [link]

I am not an illustrator. The hands are royalty-free artwork obtained from Liquid Library.

EDIT 1-19-10: Well, looks like I didn't win! It's all good, though. Please go and congratulate the winners of the contest, and above all, remember the core message of love and equality that is the basis of the whole thing.

Many thanks to those of you who faved this piece, and those who stopped by to offer a kind word.

Love unites!

:peace:

Regardless of the contest, I really like this as an individual piece. It has a strong message, clearly and concisely delivered. The style reminds me of old propaganda posters (not a bad thing!) which makes the positive message so much more memorable.

Thank you, Tanya. I appreciate that very much. I actually love old propaganda-style art and posters, and I'm grateful for the comparison.

Love the design as well as the message. Although you're not a illustrator, you've created a a wonderful composition with a lovely color palette. :)

I have felt attacked and threatened by the clenched fist when I have seen it used to represent people standing up for rights and freedoms - I think your open hands are much more likely to be effective and gain support for any cause.

Thank you! I appreciate your thought. There are times and causes for which I think a raised fist is a strong image, but this isn't one of them.

I really hope this image gets a nod in the judging portion of the contest. The fact the contest mission statement reads "Wages War on Homophobia" is very unsettling, like the best way to show love and equality is WAGING WAR. There's so much wrong with this contest, and am jovial that a lot of the joke entries and entries highlighting Fairey's art theft are prevailing.

But I don't want to call this a joke entry, because it's very serious, and conveys the best message of all entries. Sure, it goes against the contest's mission and doesn't use the iconography we are supposed to be "remixing" for it. But it also takes the underlying cause it represents with reverence, and conveys the desire for rights and equality better than anything else.

You're goddamn right. Love isn't a clenched fist. I just wish the agents claiming to represent homosexual rights like Fairey recognize that a call to arms discredits the cause he is attempting to help out. The fact he's a notorious art thief doesn't help at all, which makes this image even more valuable as it doesn't use his stolen templates.

I'm glad you credit your source, too, and went to a royalty-free library to legally acquire your material. This is the most honest, down-to-earth entry I've seen, and wish you the best of luck in the running.

Thank you. I deeply appreciate such a thoughtful comment, and that you understand what I was going for here.

I'm dismayed that the core purpose behind the contest has become obscured by the anti-Fairey firestorm, but I guess it stands to reason. You reap what you sow, and all that. :)
